Frankfurt a. M. - Highest intrusion protection, technical precision, reliability and ease of use were the reasons for fitting the Frankfurt King Kamehameha Suite with a locking system from the ASSA ABLOY Sicherheitstechnik GmbH. The unique gastronomy premises in the heart of the financial hub on the Main is optimally protected against common intrusion and opening techniques with a hierarchical locking system from the ASSA ABLOY brand IKON.

The King Kamehameha Suite situated directly opposite the Old Opera House in Frankfurt unites different gastronomical concepts under one roof. The restaurant with bar, café and take-away service is located in a Wilhelminian period villa and is a prime meeting point at all times of the day. The gastronomy on offer daily from 8 to 2 a.m depends on the demands corresponding to the time of day. Alongside the culinary highlights, the King Kamehameha Suite also puts the cultural and social emphasis on cultural events, wine tastings and live concerts in the metropolis. This extraordinarily high and intensive frequentation requires a comprehensive security concept. “With a guest area of 1 000 square metres we daily record between 500 and 1 300 guests. Checking with such numbers is absolutely impossible,” explains the manager of the King Kamehameha Suite, Daniel Rudolph. “Therefore we need targeted security solutions that we can rely on one hundred percent.” Also the exposed position of the restaurant in Frankfurt’s town centre must be taken into consideration: “Vandalism and burglary in the commercial area are unfortunately not a rarity here. Gastronomy in particular exerts a magical attraction for petty criminals and professional burglars,” according to Rudolph.

Locking systems for individual needs

“With ASSA ABLOY Sicherheitstechnik GmbH we have found a professional partner that has adapted the locking system optimally to our needs," says Daniel Rudolph. Over 80 doors in the gastronomy, storage and staff area were fitted with certified and patented locking cylinders in vector profile by Skyline Security Systems, the on-site partner of ASSA ABLOY. During the installation, not only had the architectural peculiarities of the Wilhelminian-style villa to be taken into consideration but also the requirements for the protection of monuments and fire protection. “For doors and door frames, that were not allowed to be altered and also for fire and fire protection doors, ASSA ABLOY Sicherheitstechnik has supported us with quite individual and reliable solutions,” according to Rudolph. A further argument for IKON locking systems is the hierarchical set up of the locking authorizations. Thus corresponding single keys, group-keys and sub-master keys are assigned to all locking cylinders:  The restaurant staff each have a key for their access-authorized room, team and area managers have access for their respective areas of responsibility and managers, senior managers and building services have access authorization for all rooms with the grand master key. “In our building there are around 50 staff employed that are assigned to quite different locking groups. “So it is important for us that the staff members only have one key that opens just the door for which they have access rights." Internal misuse does not present a problem for Daniel Rudolph as replacement keys and new cylinders can only be ordered from the specialist supplier on production of the security identity card that is associated with its own security number.

Perfect for upgrading

A further argument for fitting the IKON locking system is the flexibility: As a young innovative gastronomy concept, the King Kamehameha Suite is constantly subject to creative change and this requires the greatest flexibility from a locking system. “We want to further expand the concept of the Suite,” explains Rudolph, “the later integration of mechatronic locking elements in our locking system should therefore be a given. The IKON locking system offers us this prospect.”
